PM Calls on Poor People to Identify Themselves at Commune Halls for Cash Subsidies

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has called on poor people and members of vulnerable families to contact local communes to obtain identification and government subsidies during the current inflation surge.

People who can apply for support include family members with disabilities, children under the age of two, elderly over the age of 60, female heads of households who are living without a husband, and families with members who are mostly children or the elderly (no family members aged 19-59).

In a message dated 3 December 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the program to provide cash subsidies to families struggling during the current rise in inflation will open for the first time on 10 December 2022, for a second time on 10 April 2023, and a third time on 10 July 2023.

"In this sense, I would like to invite vulnerable families who have received their identification cards and verified their names at their communes to go and get their allowance at any Wing counter where they live on the date stated. Do not miss it," said the Prime Minister.

It should be noted that vulnerable families identified by the Ministry of Planning will receive different levels of cash support. In Phnom Penh, eligible families will receive 99,900 riel, families living in urban areas will receive 87,300 riel, and families living in rural areas will receive 81,300 riel. In addition to the family allowance, each individual will also receive an extra allowance. Eligible residents in Phnom Penh will receive 28,000 riel, other urban residents will receive 24,000 riel, and rural residents will receive 20,000 riel.

The government has also decided to provide cash assistance to flood-affected families in 16 provinces, including Phnom Penh, Kandal, Takeo, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang, Prey Veng, Kampot, Svay Rieng, and Oddar Meanchey. Vulnerable families in these areas will receive 80,000 riel per family, with an additional 16,000 riel given to each family who is under the age of five, over the age of 60, or has a disability.
